Learning Objectives:

You will get a basic understanding of IT concepts that are needed to support a medical imaging environment such as used in a PACS or electronic medical record (EMR or EHR) system. You will acquire skills that allow you to perform basic troubleshooting and learn how to use different computer systems and Operating System (OS) environments. The clinical component will teach you the skills to converse with medical/clinical staff and learn about digital modalities and medical terminology

Day 1

  • Basic Anatomy, Landmarks, & Planes

  • Body Systems, Studies, & Terminology

  • Principles of Radiation, Equipment & Radiation Safety

  • Descriptors & Measures of QA / QC in Medical Imaging

  • Characteristics of Current Imaging Modalities including Fluoroscopy, Digital Radiography, C.T. & Spiral C.T., MRI, Sonography, Mammography, Interventional Radiography, and Nuclear Medicine

  • Physician Order Flow; Information and Critical components

Day 2

  • Operating Systems

  • Common OS and characteristics

  • Learn basic UNIX prompts and commands

  • Database Basics

  • Database structure and purpose

  • Identify types and characteristics

  • Learn basic SQL commands to perform basic queries

  • Data Representations

  • Binary and numeric data, including conversions

  • Bits and Bytes and Hexadecimal numbers and conversions

  • Signed and unsigned, and floating point

  • Networking Technology

  • Ethernet, TCP/IP

  • Basic Security Concepts

Day 3 - Morning

  • The morning of day 3 will be allocated for overflow from the previous days and revision before the exam.

Day 3 - Afternoon: for candidates that have selected to included the PARCA CPAS Exams

  • Write the PARCA CPAS IT Exam (30 minutes)

  • Write the PARCA CPAS Clinical Exam (30 Minutes)

Herman Oosterwijk: President of OTech Inc., a healthcare imaging and informatics training and consulting company. He has been involved with the healthcare standards related to PACS, DICOM, HL7 and IHE for more than 30 years participating in several working groups of those committees and is a frequent publisher, blogger and speaker on these subjects.
